Mission

MECHDA’s mission is to work with and for the poor community with priority on children and women towards alleviating diseases, nutritional, gender and reproductive health problems thereby enhancing productivity and prosperity of the poor community.

Malaria Elimination and Community Health Development Association MECHDA is an indigenous not-for-profit, non-partisan and non-governmental local civil society organization. It was established on October 01, 2003 by a group of dedicated public health professionals and former Ethiopian malaria eradication program personnel. MECHDA has been re-registered and licensed by the Ethiopian Authority for Civil Society Organization, on April 18, 2022 as local civil society organization in accordance with the Civil Societies Organization Proclamation No. 1113/2019 with registration No. 6186 by broadening its scope of aim and programs. Currently, the organization is lead by public health specialists, epidemiologists and malariologists with extensive experience in management of malaria and public health programs in Ethiopia.

MECHDA entitled by Ethiopian Civil Society Organization Authority to work at the national level, Sidama Regional State, Central Ethiopia Region, South Ethiopia Region and South West Regional States in Ethiopia.

MECHDA is established to contribute towards better health of the local community with focus on vulnerable groups of the population such as women, children, displaced community, and people with disability. We are committed to eliminate malaria, to reduce the impact of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), HIV/AIDS, TB, to reduce gender and reproductive health problem and reduce malnutrition in Ethiopia.

So far we have implemented malaria prevention and control activities such as LLINs distribution, Indoor residual spray, mosquito source reduction, mosquito breeding site mapping,

training of health extension and health workers on IRS and mosquito identification, epidemic control, maintenance of indoor residual spray pump, supportive supervision, malaria advocacy and SBCC.

The activities have been implemented in collaboration with the ministry of health, regional health bureaus and Malaria Consortium Ethiopia.
